Homes in

Mars Hill

Known predominantly for its liberal arts university established in the mid 1800's, Mars Hill is a small town north of Asheville that has that leisurely pace of life. Centered around Mars Hill University's historic brick and colonial style buildings, the downtown area has an undeniable charm, and is littered with quirky local businesses like Camden's Coffee House and Baa'd Sheep Burritos. The community has a rich music and craft history, which is evident in the annual festivals like the Madison County Heritage Festival that show off the local's talents and wares. All in all, Mars Hill is like living in a community of the past, with a far more connected sense of community than most towns in Western North Carolina.

Homes in the Mars Hill downtown area largely follow the aesthetic of the university, with charming brick exteriors and artful layouts and designs. However, there is a large mix of home styles available in the surrounding areas. A large majority of the homes there were built in the mid-1980's and the early 2000's, and range in style from log cabin homes to more traditional style ranchers. In general, homes here are more affordable than nearby larger cities of Weaverville and Asheville, and also come with less expensive taxes and utilities overall. While remaining a charming place to live, Mars Hill can be a great place to get a starter home or an investment to rent out to the university students that flock to town each year.

While there are a few local stores and restaurants in Mars Hill, you will have to travel to Weaverville for your larger retailers, just a short 15 minute drive away. For your medical needs, you can visit the smaller Mars Hill Medical Center for most of your needs, and you can also travel to Mission Hospital in Asheville in a 30 minute drive. The Asheville Regional Airport lies about a 40 minute drive away, and offers flights to most of the eastern seaboard. Most urban amenities will be a longer commute, however living in Mars Hill will deliver that small town lifestyle that many of us dream of.
