Tucked into the mountains east of Asheville is the charming town of Black Mountain. A community known for folk arts and crafts and a vibrant music scene, Black Mountain makes a great place to visit, and a better place to live. With over 35 local eateries, 4 breweries, and a local distillery, you will find a variety of places to entertain guests or go out on the weekend in the walkable Downtown District. With year round events and festivals put on by local organizations and art collectives, you will never run out of things to do. 

For the outdoor lovers, Black Mountain is a great hub for some high energy adventure. Lake Julian, located in the downtown area, is a family-friendly park with recreation areas, grills, and water activities for all ages. Within a short drive of town, you will find a slew of hiking trails, waterfalls, and access to the Blue Ridge Parkway as well. If you're looking for a a "beach day" in the mountains, you can travel just under 45 minutes to Lake Lure, a Western North Carolina lakeside town with a beach area, boat marinas, and exciting bars and restaurants for the perfect day out. 

A short distance north of Downtown Black Mountain is Montreat, a small "village" that hosts the small liberal arts school, Montreat College. The area surrounding the campus has well-maintained homes with a unique to historical aesthetic. Montreat itself works hard to properly maintain the community to keep home prices high and the quality of life soaring. Just west of Black Mountain is Swannanoa, a less populated area with smaller commercial and residential corridors. Swannanoa is generally more affordable than Black Mountain and East Asheville, so it is a great place to keep living costs low while staying close to all the local amenities.
