Homes in

In a district just north of Asheville's downtown, you will find the historic neighborhood Montford. Originally incorporated as it's own city in 1893, this was a town that housed the middle-class to wealthy residents working locally. Many of these individuals built homes to impress, ranging in style from Queen Anne, to Colonial Revival, to Arts and Crafts bungalows. As Asheville's reputation expanded and the population grew, it began annexing nearby cities like Montford into its city limits. Although the annexation of Montford occurred in 1905, you can clearly distinguish the boundaries due to the amazingly well-kept historic homes and the gorgeous streetscapes that have delighted residents for centuries.

As the closest and most established neighborhood near Downtown Asheville, Montford home prices tend to be on the higher end for the area. However, for the higher price, you also inherit a lifestyle. Montford is one of the most walkable neighborhoods in Western North Carolina, with sidewalks outlining every street that connect you to local restaurants, coffee shops, and even the downtown area within a short distance. As you stroll, you eyes will be greeted by mature tree canopies overhanging the road, gorgeously landscaped Tudor mansions, and the friendly faces of your neighbors as they enjoy their porch during the sunset hour. Residents often frequent Montford Park, a centrally located 4.1 acre tract with a basketball court, a playground, restrooms, a picnic shelter, and two lighted tennis courts for the public. You can even catch a Montford Park Players hold theatrical recreations of Shakespeare and Grimm on occasion.

The Montford is conveniently located where you can travel via highways or backstreets with ease. Use residential streets to cut over to Merrimon and Charlotte Street's commercial districts, the University of North Carolina Asheville, or one of the many riverside bars/restaurants on Riverside Drive in the River Arts District. Or if you need a quicker commute, you have access to I-26 and I-240 within a mile of the neighborhoods edge. When you move to Montford, you are inheriting history and a lifestyle in one gorgeous package.
