Homes in

Swannanoa

Located just east of bustling Asheville is the quiet community of Swannanoa. The town is named after the Swannanoa River that run from the higher mountains to the north of the town, and it remains predominantly forested with small residential areas and even smaller commercial and shopping districts. Although there are a few restaurants and stores to enjoy off of the main thoroughfare, Tunnel Road, many of Swannanoa's residents do not mind a short commute to Asheville or quaint Black Mountain's downtown to enjoy the quirky local restaurants and local music scene.

The housing market in Swannanoa is relatively cheaper than nearby cities, and home here accrue only Buncombe county taxes, saving residents money each year. Home styles in the area are a mix of mountain modern, traditional cabin, brick bungalows, and some new construction homes as well. Most homes here enjoy decent acreage and less density, and have relative privacy from their neighbors. Overall, this is a great place to find a starter home or second home and not break the bank.

This community hosts Warren Wilson College, a small university with a focus on experiential learning and sustainability practices. This historic campus has almost a thousand students who attend seasonally, and that youthful presence is felt in the Swannanoa community. Residents here tend to be outdoor enthusiasts, visiting nearby watering holes and hiking trails  or Charles D. Owen Park to pass a weekend day. Or within a short ten to fifteen minute drive, you can access the plethora of Asheville's unique restaurants and breweries, and Mission Hospital for your medical needs.
